MIPC 2023: A Resounding Success with an Overwhealming Number of Global Applicants

The First Edition of the Madrid International Piano Competition is receiving 181 pianists for its first round - preselection -, coming from 34 different countries.

The competition's pre-selection process witnessed an astonishing influx of applications, with a staggering 181 talented pianists from 34 different countries vying for a chance to participate. In this preliminary round, the applicants submitted video performances, showcasing their virtuosity and musical prowess.

Our distinguished pre-selection jury, including Pascal Nemirovski, Michal Tal, Mario Mora, Daniel Lebhardt, and Louis Schwizgebel - are  meticulously evaluating the submissions. Their discerning judgment and expertise ensured that the most promising talents were selected to advance to the semi-final round.

Out of the impressive pool of applicants, the pre-selection jury handpicked 12 candidates for Category A (ages 10 to 15) and another 12 for Category B (ages 16 to 28). These exceptional young pianists will converge in Madrid to compete in the semi-final round, scheduled to take place on September 21st and 22nd, 2023.

The semi-final and final rounds will be evaluated by a jury comprising astonishing professionals such as Akiko Ebi, Emma Bloxham, Sa Chen, Josu De Solaun, Louis Schwizgebel, Michal Tal, Pascal Nemirovski, Pierig Escher and Tamás Ungar. With their immense expertise and discerning ears, they will contribute to the high caliber and excellence of the event.

The City of Madrid is set to host the highly anticipated inaugural edition of the Madrid International Piano Competition from September 21st to 23rd at the iconic Ateneo de Madrid.
