About the Competition

The Madrid International Piano Competition is dedicated to promoting young pianists' artistic careers and allowing these talents to be heard and advised by international concert pianists and pedagogues. Still, it will also benefit from liaising with decision-makers from the industry, such as artistic agents and producers.

The MIPC is the first international competition named after this European capital, which aims to gather the youngest, most talented pianists of today in this vibrant & full of culture city.

Dear young pianists,

The Musical Arts Escuela Superior is organising the first-ever Madrid International Piano Competition, which will take place in Madrid from 21 to 23 September 2023. The competition is open to young talented pianists of all nationalities, Category A (10-15 years old) and Category B (16-28 years old).

This brand-new International Piano Competition ever, organised in such a fantastic city as Madrid, is dedicated to helping to promote the artistic careers of the young prize-winners, as well as allowing them to be heard and advised by international concert pianists and pedagogues but also could benefit from liaising with decision-makers from the music industry, such as artistic agents, producers, editors. Furthermore, this is an excellent opportunity for young pianists to be professionally broadcast and watched by thousands worldwide.

Everything is set up to make these four days in September 2023 the continuity of an extraordinary human and musical adventure. We all know that starting a musical career for young talents is full of challenges. Our priority is to help create a fantastic atmosphere and family of musicians around our beloved instrument with our competition.

The Madrid International Piano Competition is born in association with the Escuela Superior Musical Arts. It has always been a dream and a passion to hear remarkable, talented young pianists. We are optimistic that the Madrid International Piano Competition will attract young talents from all over the world. Furthermore, this event will contribute to giving a wonderful musical image to our city, and we want to thank Kawai Spain for all the material and financial support for creating this new major artistic event.

We know this competition will be an opportunity for meetings, exchanges, and discoveries, with a wonderful jury composed of personalities from the international musical world. It was one of our priorities! They have chosen to spend three days listening to you and advising you on your career. A big thank you to all of you, especially those from very far away.

When & where will the Competition happen?

The MIPC will take place in Madrid (Spain) between September 21st and 23rd, 2023 - when the semi-final and final rounds will take place.

On September 21st, the semi-final for Category B will take place at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. Semi-final for Category A (Sept. 22nd) and Final round for both categories (Sept. 23rd) will be hosted at Ateneo de Madrid.

Before this, a pre-selection via video will serve as a screening process to select the participants in the live rounds.

When is the application deadline?

You can apply to the competition until May 30th, 2023. The application process starts January

What is the age limit for the competition?

The competition has two different categories:

Category A is for pianists born between the 21st of September 2007 and the 20th of September 2013 (10 to 15 years old).

Category B is for pianists born between the 21st of September 1994 and the 20th of September 2007 (16 to 28 years old).
